October 22, 2026 - The Butler Metropolitan Housing Authority/OneCanopi Board of Commissioners terminated CEO Timothy Butler following serious allegations about financial mismanagement and Mr. Butler’s spending decisions.

The Board’s first and highest priority is ensuring the well-being of the residents and families who depend on BMHA/OneCanopi while maintaining the critical services the organization provides to the community. The irregularities presented to the Board did not align with these values.

Earlier this week, a whistleblower provided information to the Board that led to today’s decision. After reviewing the preliminary evidence earlier this week, the Board immediately suspended Mr. Butler and initiated the process to terminate him.
The Board also notified state and federal authorities about the allegations and is fully committed to supporting any criminal investigation. Additionally, the Board separately authorized outside counsel to hire an independent auditor to review expenditures and vendor relationships during Mr. Butler’s tenure.

In addition to the termination, the Board also implemented an immediate freeze on discretionary spending, hiring, and new vendor agreements. This freeze will not impact day-to-day operations.

Mr. Tim Ayres has been named Interim CEO and will oversee daily operations while the independent review proceeds.

The allegations raised are deeply concerning and do not reflect BMHA/OneCanopi’s mission and values. The Board recognizes the integrity of employees who raise concerns and the dedication of the many BMHA/OneCanopi employees whose work provides critical support to residents and families throughout our community.

As this matter involves potential state and federal investigations, along with an independent review, the Board will not speculate or comment further on the specific allegations. Additional information will be shared as appropriate and in accordance with applicable state and federal law.
